Friends of Hubbell Native Arts Auction: May 5, 2007 Ganado, AZ
The weather was not on our side for this particular auction. We actually had snow during the night before
the auction (see the picture at right for a view of area near Window
Rock) and we experienced intermittent rain, sleet and hail during the
day with the temperature hovering around a decidedly unspringlike 54
degrees. Although the weather definitely kept some buyers at home
(or at least in some place warmer than Ganado), sales topped $150,000
with $125,000 going to the weavers.
![]() We are continuing to see an increase in the number of handspun, handcarded pieces and vintage rugs continue to attract a lot of attention and competitive bids. On the downside, we are seeing pieces being woven with acrylic yarns. We're working with the staff at Hubbell to educate them in the identification of these lower quality weavings so that they can be gradually juried out of the auction, especially since over 200 pieces had to be turned away. Here are the total statistics for this auction
