Rug 5374 Germantown Revival Pictorial Maybelle Begay The Germantown Revival Style has its origins in the period during and after the incarceration of the Navajo people at the Bosque Redondo in eastern New Mexico.  At that time, the Navajos were provided with brightly colored sock yarns spun in Germantown, Pennsylvania.   The Navajos had seen many new and intriguing designs and the new color palette encouraged them  to incorporate these into their weavings as they tried to cope with life in the harsh environment.  The survival of weaving during this period is a stirring testament to the strength of the human spirit.  Maybelle Begay has incorporated these Transition period designs into a sampler with a contemporary flair. Bruce has encouraged the weavers who work with him to try the reproductions of the Germantown yarns, and we have the largest selection of contemporary Germantown weavings available.   Maybelle lives in the New Lands  area.
